How can budget travelers get around Miami?

Miami Public Transportation

The Miami area is a top tourist destination. It is also one of the most traffic-congested cities in the United States. Fortunately, Miami-Dade Transit runs a public transportation system that works quite well. The Miami Metrorail started running in the mid-eighties, and has recently been extended to the airport. All Miami Metrorail stations have security guards on duty plus video cameras, so overall they are quite safe anytime. All Metrobus routes connect with the Metrorail.

All buses and the Metrorail connect with the MetroMover at Government Center in downtown Miami. MetroMover is a free elevated rail car that covers over two miles, from the Brickell Avenue financial district on the south side of downtown to the Omni Center on the north side. This is ideal for anyone going to downtown attractions and events. Miami-Dade Transit also offers a plastic card that can be ordered and reloaded online, thus liberating travelers of having to carry coins or small bills for bus fare.
